Mr. Micheal Muthuiya, Assistant Dean of Students, Faculty of the Built Environment conducted the session on drug abuse and substance use among university students which has become a global concern, considering the continued consumption of these illegal drugs and substances.
Despite this understanding and worrying state of affairs, evidence on the health outcomes and how to curb the menace many youths indulge themselves in drugs and substance abuse for all sorts of reasons. They range from dysfunctional families, peer influence, availability of alcohol and drugs, influence of the social media, unemployment and stress to mention a few. The sensitization also stressed the need to adopt interventions aimed at promoting student’s well-being in the university setting, while protecting them from accessing illegal drugs and substances that are harmful to their health and wellbeing.
