Urban Planning and Design Thematic Area

This thematic area underscores the role of urban planning and design as discourses in urbanism and the translation of such sensibility in relation to human settlements and development dynamics. The focus is both on the intangible (software) and tangible (hardware) dimensions of the city, paying special attention to African and developing world’s experie hinces, especially those facing transition to new forms and meanings in the 21st century and beyond. The Urban Planning and Design area of specialization aims at broadening the scope of the urban planner for effective engagement with other professionals in the built environment.  This will strengthen the link between training, professional practice, and the built environment industry.
